The team took the long bus trip this past weekend to compete at the prestigious Tiffin Cross Country Carnival. Six of Ohio’s top 12 ranked teams competed against each other, along with one of Michigan’s premier programs. It truly came down to the wire, and we came up 7 points short of winning the championship. The seven point margin was made even closer when you look at the fact there were over 330 runners and 49 teams in the race!!!
We came into the meet ranked number 2 in the state, but third ranked Bay Village and Dekatur Bellmont from Michigan edged us out. We came into the race knowing we had a couple runners banged up a bit, and it was exciting to watch their teammates step up to try to compensate. Dylan Hammond (14th, 16:25), Andrew Williamson (46th, 17:03), and Aidan Schaffer (66th, 17:30) all ran personal best times. Xavier Foehl placed 4th overall (15:50), Jack Lutz 32nd (16:47), and Preston Pethtel 60th (17:22) rounded out team scoring.
While we always want to compete for those first place trophies, the guys gave a great effort, we learned a lot, and we have a lot of kids getting better that are going to be instrumental for us if we expect to reach our goals in the postseason. Quite simply, it is exactly why we go to premier events such as this!!! We came up a few points short, but we also beat a lot of quality programs as well. Our kids will continue working hard (as they always do) and to improve.

It truly is exciting having some success at the Varsity level, but also watching our JV runners battling these top-notch programs as well. The finished 5th in team competition and looked GREAT!!!
